I know you can.

"Dinner for one please."

I accomplished my goal of being a vegetarian for ONE WHOLE MONTH! Yay me! Keep in mind that I did allow myself to have dairy products and fish, but for me that's a big deal. In order to celebrate my accomplishment I took myself out to eat at one of my favorite restaurant's Duwali's. They are an Middle Eastern spot located on the North Side of Chicago. For two years I have adored their Chicken Shawarma and Hummus. Doesn't it look appetizing?

Chicken shawarma:

Fresh hummus:

Two things came as a shocker to me:

  1. In the pass I thoroughly enjoyed eating chicken shawarma's, but this time was weird. My body hasn't missed meat and seemed confused about me eating it Friday. To be honest, I felt a little grossed out. I didn't finish the chicken shawarma, but most definitely enjoyed the rest of my pita bread and hummus. I didn't have any meat on Saturday or Sunday. I don't know when I'll go back to eating meat, so I'll just enjoy where I am now. I may even challenge myself to be a vegan for one month (of course after the holidays are over).
  2. I took myself out to eat and thoroughly enjoyed my own company! Lately I've been allowing myself to do the things I enjoy alone. I used to be the type of person who always needed a buddy to enjoy an outing. The older I become, the more I realize how much I enjoy my own company. If you've never taken yourself out to eat, or to the show, I challenge you to do it soon!
So how was ya'll weekend?

  1. As a western society I don't think people actually realize that the human body was NEVER meant to digest the type of things we put into our systems. Food is fuel, and while I love to enjoy that fuel, if you consider your system as a Bentley and try to put unleaded in the tank it's not going to run efficiently and will eventually mess up the engine. I think most people think about their body's and the way that they eat the way they should. This is a great post.
