Ever since I was a little girl I have always admired the beauty of Indian women. Their dark skin was similar to mine. Their almond shape eyes were simply beautiful. Their attire.......breath taking. If I could wear a sari, with henna marked hands everyday I would. Everything about the Indian woman fascinates me.
A couple of months ago I was living in Jackson, MS. I went to the local mall to have my eyebrows threaded by an Indian woman. As I laid in the chair she looked at me and said "You are beautiful and I love your hair". I said "Thank you", but on the inside I was blown away. For years I have admired the beauty that comes along with their culture, and here I was with micro braids (African American culture), dark skin, with big eyes, and she thought it was beautiful!
Please don't misunderstand me, I am proud to be a Black woman. I don't secretly wish I was Indian. I simply learned a lesson that day: Sometimes the beauty that you admire, admires you as well.
I've always thought that Indian women were stunning too.
